Getting Started With Luma Surround Wi-Fi

(Luma wifi setup is given below)Almost every home these days has Wi-Fi. With so many choices now on what Wi-Fi router to choose, the inexperienced will surely be confused. The router that usually comes from your service provider may or may not give you the best service. These routers are generally slow and not designed with good speed and heavy workloads in mind. The routers are often extremely basic and can only broadcast to a few devices at the same time. Every house today has a multitude of devices connected to it. TV streamers, Cell Phones, Gaming consoles and others, are starved for the signal. It generally results in a poor experience, with people blaming their Broadband package. Whether you think that this is a marketing strategy is purely up to you. Check this short video out!

“Bandwidth”, “Latency” “Filtering”, these terms are complicated on their own and commonly found in all reviews and descriptions of Wi-Fi routers you will find online. For the average Joe or Jane, these may seem daunting, but people generally just want something that gets the job done, without going into its science. The general idea behind “Surround” and “Mesh” Wi-Fi systems is quite simple. We have long had the thought that a single Wi-Fi router is all that is needed to enjoy the internet. We often place it at the center of the house to ensure maximum coverage everywhere. It sounds simple, but it actually isn’t. For starters, Wi-Fi signals drop considerably the farther you are to the router. You may think that your internet is slow due to the number of devices connected to it, but the culprit may be distance. Regardless of what Wi-Fi router you use, there will always be dead zones. Places which are far away from the router can get little to no signal. This is due to range and objects such as walls, furniture or even humans coming in the way. Objects can absorb Wi-Fi signals and that can become a problem. Here is where Mesh Wi-Fi comes in.

By having multiple routers throughout the house, in places where you need it most, a router can be installed. This results in a “Net” or “Mesh” of Wi-Fi that gives total coverage throughout the house. By eliminating any and every dead-zone, you can go anywhere in the house and get 100% signal. In real-world testing, this has shown to be effective as people with large houses tend to suffer the most and this device is here to solve exactly that.

Luma wifi setup

Again a very short video for you’re not a big fan of reading.

Setting up the Luma Surround Wi-Fi is actually quite simple. One thing to note is that there will be three units included in the box and any of them could be used as a master router. This is handy because in case a device fails, or gets damaged in some way, you can easily replace it with another. The Luma units are sold separately as well so you can connect multiple Units throughout your house to give a stronger mesh.

Firstly, decide on where you want to place the unit. You may think that the router would do better in a closet or behind a desk, but that’s wrong. The ideal place would be a desk or table, in plain sight as it will not interrupt the signal. Another thing is that the router has three connections; a power connection, Ethernet in and Ethernet out. Make sure you place the router someplace that has these connections. The Ethernet in refers to the line that comes from your modem. Your house needs to have Ethernet connectivity in every room for the Mesh system to work. You can connect the routers to each other through Wi-Fi but that will take up a big chunk of your bandwidth (it will slow down the internet).

The Ethernet out port is for making wired connections to devices. You can connect your PC, game console or other Luma units. A wired connection is always faster than a wireless connection as it has no signal drop. Routers also provide higher bandwidth, so you can connect important devices with wired connections and leave Wi-Fi for the rest.

After plugging in the router, you may need to connect to it using a wired connection to set it up. Place the Luma routers in the rooms you want. You can follow the instruction manual provided if you have any doubts. Now it’s time to test it out. After the initial setup is done, you should go into every room and try connecting with each Luma. This should help you recognize which routers are working. You will immediately notice a difference when it comes to coverage. Parts of your house that didn’t receive signals are now in range. You can even install a router on your lawn so you get a signal outdoors. The possibilities are endless.

What’s Left?

Well, quite obviously, there’s a lot more. This is just how to get started with it and once you’re familiar with how the Luma works, you can move on to buying accessories, customizing it or really just getting better use out of it.

The Luma is definitely a device that is catered to everyone and anyone looking for a better internet connection and system. Whether you use the internet a lot or not is a different argument, but having a Luma on your hand is for sure worth it. It is available on Amazon and other online e-commerce platforms as well so finding it isn’t hard no matter where you are in the world and of course, the price is pretty good too so you won’t regret it at all even if you don’t like it.

There’s only more to come from here with the Luma so make sure to stick around and watch the days of Internet change very soon.
